Ken Fisher’s beehives are located on Long’s Bend Farm, a ‘Century Farm,’ on the Shenandoah River a mile and a half north of Alma.
Products include raw honey and beeswax. Additionally, some of the beeswax is used to make lip balms, lotion bars and soap.
Swarms are also collected and given new homes. Only natural treatments are used in the hives, no insecticides or antibiotics.
As the apiary is small, only limited quantities are available. When available, products may be purchased at the Luray Farmers Market and The Page County Heritage Festival at the fairgrounds in October.
Ken and other members of the Page Valley Beekeepers Association also help new beekeepers get started in the fascinating hobby of beekeeping.
